How to Fix Windows 10 Hibernate Not Working Issue

One of the features in Windows that people use to make their PC boot faster than usual is the Hibernate option. When you put your PC into hibernate mode, it keeps the PC in the same state as you left it before hibernating. When you do that, you will not need to save your progress or data on your PC in the running applications. This ensures a faster reboot with all the programs that you need to work on ready to go. It is a commonly used feature; however, many users reported the Windows 10 Hibernate not working issue on their PC.

Solutions to Fix Hibernate Not Working in Windows 10:

#1 – Enabling Hibernate in Windows 10

If you cannot see the Hibernate option in the Power menu of your computer, it means the Hibernate option is not enabled. In this case, you will need to enable it through the Control Panel. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Launch Control Panel on your PC. To do this, press the Win + R keys on your keyboard. The Run box will open. Here, type Control and press the Enter key.

Step 2: The Control Panel window will open. Here, click on the Hardware and Sound option.

Step 3: On the next screen, select the Power Options.

Step 4: Now, select the option that says, Choose what the power buttons do.

Step 5: On the next screen, you will be able to see the Hibernate option, but you will be unable to activate it. To do that, click on the option that says Change settings that are currently unavailable.

Step 6: When you do that, you will now be able to select the Hibernate option. Make the selection and click on the Save changes option.

Once you have saved the changes made above, you will now see the Hibernate option in the Power menu. If you are unable to see the Hibernate option, restart your PC once and try.

#2 – By Updating Windows in Your PC

The Windows operating system installed in your PC needs to be updated to its latest version for your PC to function properly. If Windows 10 is not up to date, it may cause compatibility issues on your computer, causing various functions to fail at random. To make sure that any pending update is not the reason behind your PC unable to hibernate, carry out a Windows 10 update. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Launch the Settings app on your PC. To do this, press the Win + I keys together.

Step 2: Select the Update & Security option in the Settings app.

Step 3: A new window will open. Here, go to the left side and make sure that the Windows Update option is selected. Now, go on the right side and make a click on the Check for updates option.

As you select this option, Windows will see if any new update is available on the Microsoft server. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update process. Your PC will restart post update. Now, check if you can hibernate in Windows 10.

#3 – Reset Power Plan Settings

If the Hibernate option is not working on your Windows 10 PC, you can fix it just by resetting the power plan settings. The process is quite simple to implement. Here’s how:

Step 1: Press Win + R keys. The Run box will open. There, type Control and press, Ok.

Step 2: In the Control Panel window, select Hardware and Sound > Power Options. On the next screen, click on the Change plan settings option available besides the Preferred plan selected in the settings.

Step 3: On the next screen of power settings, select the option that says “Restore default settings for this plan.”

On the confirmation box, select Yes to reset the power plan settings on your PC.

#4 – Update Display Driver

If the Display Driver in your PC is not up to date, you may face issues such as this one. Make sure the display driver is up to date on your PC.

Step 1: Press Win + X keys to open the Windows Power Menu. Here, select the option named Device manager.

Step 2: Locate the Display adapters option in the list of devices. Expand the device list, make a right-click on the display driver, and select the Update driver option.

Once you do that, another screen will ask how you want to search for the driver’s updated version. Select the first option to automatically look for a newer version of the display driver on the internet.

Proceed with the update if it is available. After the update is complete, do not forget to restart your PC. After the restart, check if the hibernate not working issue is taken care of.

#5 – Scan your PC for Virus/Malware
